Craft Beer

Cascade hops was the beginning and 1972 the year that the government decided to release this creation to the American brewing industry. Nineteen-seventytwo was also the year that Anchor Brewing (established 1896) revived the American Porter. “Anchor Porter was the first post-Prohibition American porter in the U.S.,” Anchor brewmaster Scott Ungermann told Food & Wine. With the legalization of home brewing by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, the stage was set for the establishment of small breweries producing high quality limited batch beer. Over a decade later the New Belgium Brewing Company introduced it's Fat Tire Beer, in 1991, which helped to establish Colorado as an important foundation of the American Craft Beer movement. We see the results here in Montrose, with Horsefly Brewing Company and the Two Rascals Brewing Company. Locals and visitors alike are invited to take their time and savor the flavor of Montrose own craftbrewers.
