Pig Stand Number 2
The year was 1921 when Kirby's Pig Stand opened as America's first drive-in restaurant in Dallas Texas. The first Pig Stand was located on a highway that connected Dallas with Ft. Worth, a key inducement for folks who were on the road and wanting a quick meal. The drive-in format, allowed urban residents the option of driving up to the restaurant and having service at their car. As automobile ownership expanded into the 1920's and 1930's the concept of a no delay meal was established. It was not until after the second world war two, that the drive through concept was introduced. For hungry folks, the concept of getting a quick meal allowing them to spend less time eating and more time doing, benefited the owner of the restaurant allowing cost savings for wait staff, giving the owners options to reduce the price of meals and improving profits.
In the late 1940's McDonald's and the In-N-Out Berger were founded in California. In-N-Out was the first hamburger stand in California to offer a drive through option. McDonald's at the time had a walk up window with patrons parking at the restaurant. Today the drive through concept is the standard for a quick meal for locals or travelers. Montrose has a wide variety of fast food restaurants to meet to meet those needs.
