The town of Olathe is located just 10 miles west of Montrose on US 50. Sitting on the banks of the Uncompahgre River, the farming community of Olathe is surrounded by the rich agricultural lands on Ash, High, and East Mesas. Established in 1882 and incorporated in 1907. Originally the postal name was Brown (after Brown the name of the Post Master), then known as Colorow (the name of the D&RGW rail depot and renegade Indian Chief), the name was changed to Olathe at the urging of a new railway agent.
